Last May we had our first meeting of the Ecclesia & Ethics conference. This conference was live, on-line, in real time via Webinar (gotomeeting.com). There were no airplane fees, no travel days, no accommodation fees, no annoying roommates, no special travel documents required, nothing like that. We simply asked that everyone make a small donation to one of our recommended charities, or another charity of one’s choosing. From our first conference meeting we were able to raise over $2,500 for various charities (including Bombay Teen Challenge, WorldVision, The Simple Way). And because of our innovative on-line format we were able to have represented at our conference: 18 countries, 28 US states, and 50 universities.
And now, we’re just around the corner from our second conference meeting being held on Saturday March 1st and Saturday March 8th (3pm–11pm GMT; 10am–6pm EST; 9am–5pm CST; 7am–3pm PST).
The theme for Ecclesia & Ethics II is “Gospel Community and Virtual Existence.” Conference papers will therefore explore a theology and ethics of the internet from a biblical and ecclesial perspective. No software will need to be purchased by presenters or attendees, and Webinar access is provided entirely for free due to a generous grant through Corban University. Participants and attendees will be able to sign on, present, and listen to or watch presentations from anywhere in the world with reliable internet and a computer. Registration for the conference will consist of a $10/£7 (minimum) donation to one of our recommended charities. We invite participants to give according to their means above the $10/£7 to one or more of our charities if they feel led and are able.
Main papers will be presented by our Main Speakers: Michael Bird, William D. Mounce, John Mark Reynolds, Ben Meyers, Mark D. Baker, William M. Struthers, Brandon Cox, Douglas R. Groothuis, Scott Rae, Walter Kim, and Derek C. Schuurman. You can find out more about our main speakers here.
Additionally, we will have nearly 20 additional parallel presentations throughout the conference, utilizing virtual rooms through our software. You can read more about these presenters and their papers here.
